Terms & Conditions
Bell Wine & Spirits wants our customers to understand the following terms and conditions. By placing an order with Bell, you agree to the following.
By placing an order with Bell, you represent that you are at least 21 years of age. Bell retains the right to use reasonable means to verify a buyers age, and reserves the right to refuse to sell wine to anyone. Bell requires that all carriers of shipments verify the age of the recipient at the time of delivery. Bell will comply in any legal prosecution of anyone under the age of 21 who attempts to buy alcohol.
Location of Sale
All sales are in Washington, DC. Title passes to the buyer upon execution of the sale. At that point, Bell is acting as the buyers agent when arranging delivery. The buyer asserts that in requesting Bell ship wine that he or she is acting in accordance with and satisfying the laws of the delivery destination. Any shipment that is seized or destroyed because of shipping law violations is not eligible for refund. Some states have laws against the importation of alcoholic beverages (Virginia and Maryland included), while others still require permits and set limitations. For more information please see The Wine Institute.
Bell will make every effort to coordinate for prompt shipping of your orders, however please understand that many different factors can influence the timing of shipments. It is Bell's general policy to not ship wine during extreme weather temperature conditions, and that includes originating, destination, and all locations in between. Extreme temperatures will ruin wine, so Bell will only ship wine when the method and route provide for temperatures reliably above freezing and below 75 degrees. If you want your wine shipped when other conditions prevail please know that we cannot be held responsible for damage to the wine. Also, depending on where you live we may promote shipping on a Monday only in order to avoid a weekend stay with the carrier.
Bell will hold orders free of charge for a reasonable period of time, usually until conducive shipping temperatures prevail. Other circumstances can be accommodated on an as-needed basis. There is no charge for holding wine and it is done as a courtesy to our customers. The wine in Bell's custody remains the property of the customer. Bell reserves the right to store the wine in an alternate location as deemed necessary by Bell, usually reserved for especially large orders.
P. O. Boxes and APO's cannot be accepted for shipping. An adult 21 years old or older needs to be present to sign for the wine at the address provided for shipping. Business addresses are preferred, but not required.
Bell guarantees that every bottle it sells is in excellent or "as-described" condition. If you receive a bottle that is not in excellent condition or does not match with the description provide, please contact Bell within 24 hours of receipt. Bell guarantees wines that are delivered by the method contracted and received by the customer on the first attempted delivery. Bell cannot be held liable for damage that may be caused as a result of delayed shipments, reroutes, or other unforeseen deferments. Bell cannot accept returns on any opened, altered, or bottles that have been out of Bell's possession for over 6 months.
Older bottles will be described as accurately as possible. This includes capsule, label, and back label condition, as well as cork position and seal, fill level, and overall general appearance. For high value wines, Bell will be happy to provide digital photos. Please inquire.
There is a 5% restocking fee on all canceled orders.
