Merus started as a true garage wine and has catapulted to be a top California producer. This wine is offered by mailing list only and is extremely difficult to purchase.
This is only the second vintage ever offered by Merus. I purchased from the mailing list and have kept it cellared at 58 degress in my luxury cellar.
Robert Parker writes.... 92-94
There are 325 cases of the 1999. It is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine was made from fruit picked extremely ripe, aged largely in French new oak.
The 1999 has an opaque blue/purple color, as well as a gorgeous nose with scents of blackberry liqueur intermixed with cassis. This high quality, spicy wine is full-bodied, big, and rich, with a long, silky-textured finish. Again, purity, symmetry, and intensity are hallmarks of this wine.
